Over the past year and a half at Mercy’s Door we have fixed our eyes upon Jesus Christ in the Gospel of Mark as he lived, healed, taught, and loved and then ultimately died, rose again and ascended to the right hand of the Father.  We have spent countless hours in awe of our perfect savior being reminded of both our need for redemption and his perfect work for us on the cross.  I hope, collectively, we have a clear sense for how the gospel of Jesus (the good news of his life, death, and resurrection for our salvation) changes our eternity and reconciles us with God the Father.  But the gospel is not simply about our “forever,” but rather it has much to say about our “right now.”   In his pastoral letter to the church in Philippi, Paul describes to his brothers and sisters in Christ what a life in light of the gospel looks like.  He shows them how the gracious work of Jesus changes our relationships, circumstances, pursuits, and fears.  As a church, my prayer for this next season in the Book of Philippians, is that we, like the original audience, would grasp what it looks like to embrace a life “worthy of the Gospel.”  Join us this fall as we learn together how fixing our eyes on eternity to come is the means by which our present lives will be changed.
