EVANGELISM
A FREE COURSE COMPLIMENTS OF DALLAS THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY
SESSION FIVE
How to Present the Gospel
In this lesson, we learn one method for presenting the gospel to someone. The guest lecturer for this lesson is Dr. Larry Moyer, Founder of EvanTell, a ministry that trains Christians around the world to share the gospel with confidence and love.
*The content from the handout that Dr. Moyer references in this lesson can be found here on the EvanTell website.
LESSON POINTS
The simplest expression of the gospel is this: Christ died for our sins and rose from the dead.
One easy way to present the gospel involves telling people the bad news of the human problem and the good news of God’s solution.
If someone is hesitant to trust in Christ, you can discuss the things keeping them from making such a commitment.
When evangelizing, look for opportunities to turn conversations toward spiritual things.
When talking about salvation, it’s best to use the words the Bible uses like “trust” and “believe.”
WORSHIP MOMENT
Praise God that He has made a way for us to cross from death to life! Praise Him for the death and resurrection of Christ. Praise Him for the Holy Spirit who inspired the biblical writers to record for us how we can be saved by trusting in Christ. Praise Him for the person who first told you about the gospel. Praise Him for the opportunities He gives you to tell others!
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
Do you remember Dr. Moyer’s method for sharing the gospel? What is the opening question? What are the two points, passages, and illustrations for the bad news? What are the two points, passages, and illustrations for the good news? What is the closing question?
Why is it a good idea to have new believers memorize John 5:24, “I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life”?
Why is it good to avoid phrases like, “give your life to God,” “invite Jesus into your heart,” and even “pray to receive Christ”?
