Frequently Asked Questions:

  • All who profess faith in Christ alone for their right-standing with God.

  • In baptism, Christ calls His followers to a means of grace by which we experience bodily the spiritual reality that our old self, which was enslaved to sin, has been crucified with Christ (going under the water) and our new life, lived by the power of the Holy Spirit, has come alive (coming above the water). There is nothing magical in the water, for it alone does not make us a believer in Christ. Rather, it's the work of Christ in the act of baptism that applies His grace to His people in this outward expression to the world that you belong to Christ Jesus and have been united with Him in His life, death, and resurrection by grace through faith. Baptism is one of the most powerful ways we can carry the name of Jesus and the first step of obedience as we follow the example that Jesus laid out for us in Matthew 3.

  • We will baptize believers on any Sunday! However, twice a year, we hold formal baptism services. We set these dates on the calendar for several reasons.

Firstly, the elders pray earnestly as these times of year approach that God would call and prepare the hearts of believers who have not yet been baptized to follow Jesus into the waters of baptism.

Secondly, by setting these services on the calendar, it prompts members of the church to earnestly talk to the Lord about baptism.

Thirdly, these services offer the opportunity for many brothers and sisters in Christ to enter the waters of baptism on the same day, which can be really special.

  • A pastor from Mercy’s Door will hold your right hand during your baptism and ask you to confirm your faith in Jesus Christ. If you would like someone special to hold your left hand when you are immersed, just let us know and we'll work with you to make it happen!

  • A towel, a change of clothes, and an outfit that you don’t mind getting wet!
